Calvary Chapel, like many denominations embrace the idea that water baptism is a "church ordinance" that is not connected with having your sins washed away. However, the Bible treats water baptsim as a divine ordinance for sinners to obey to be saved (Acts 2:38). Protestants often run to the examples of thieves to offset the power of passages like Acts 2:38.

They retort to the thief on the cross and an illustration of Jesse James being wanted for robbery. This lesson answers these objections as well as the unscriptural idea of saying a sinner's prayer to be saved.
